# Using the app outside your local network

By default, Barcode to PC works on your local network (LAN). However, you can configure it to work from anywhere using your public IP address.

Requirements:

Your ISP must allow incoming connections
Port forwarding capability on your router
Firewall configuration access

Setup steps:

Configure port forwarding on your router to forward TCP port 57891 to your computer running the Barcode to PC server
Allow the port through your firewall - Add a rule to allow TCP port 57891
Find your public IP address - Search "what is my IP" on Google
Add the server to the app:
- Open the Barcode to PC app
- Open the menu and tap Select server
- Tap the + ADD SERVER button
- Enter your public IP address

Security Note

Exposing your computer to the internet comes with security risks. Ensure your server application is password-protected and keep your software updated.
